I aim to express form through organic fluidity and vibrant colors of my paintings.
My work explores both the drama and pleasures of life. I blend vivid colors and vibrancy to convey experiences that make up the fabrics of my life. The goal of my art is to express myself by creating a fantastical world from the ordinary life.
Many of you have been asking about my research trip to ISLA DEL COCO- Cocos Island,Costa Rica. The data collected from tagging and tracking the sharks of Cocos Island, is aimed at ensuring protections from illegal fishing. We hope to create international cooperative swimways, for these and all marine creatures! I hope you enjoy my short video and find out how you can help save our Oceans! Janet

Read moreOur coffee is a unique blend you will only find at 3rd coast. Partnering with Columbia Street Roastery, It wasn't enough to just provide a premium cup of coffee for our customers, we wanted to know who our coffee farmers were. Coffee takes on the flavors of the farm and personality of the farmer. To know your coffee you must know your farmer. But this works both ways - when a farmer knows you they put extra effort and pride into all that they do. And this is the power of intentional trade - your coffee was grown, picked, pulped, processed, shipped and roasted - just for you.
Being a small business we consciously picked a blend of coffee from small family farmers in Africa, more specifically the countries of Burundi and Uganda near where I grew up. My father was on a flying doctors team that covered all of East Africa. Coffee is their main cash crop and the money earned from growing coffee pays for their children's school dues/supplies each year among other items they need.
We are proud to serve our 3rd Coast Blend knowing our customers are getting a fantastic tasting cup of coffee and at the same time be able to support fellow small business/farmers with our purchases.
Every day before dinnertime, we turn off the wifi at 3rd Coast Café. In a society where being connected to people and ideas thousands of miles away is easier than ever, why would we limit your connectivity in our café?
Because we want to make sure that dinner time is a time to be present, Wether it's with a first date, an old friend, or your favorite book. We encourage you to take the time to turn off the computer, just for a bit. The world wide web will wait an hour while you enjoy a drink, a meal, a friend and a moment of presence.
The music played at the Coast matches the warm comfort of the space and staff, molding with the day to day moments and varied clientele. From the melancholy moanings of The National and Bon Iver to suit the introverted artists, then to the emotive upbeat swinging brass of Miles and Coltrane for the dinner patrons and on to the electronic rhythmic pulse of the Field and Caribou for the night crowd is how a typical day of music at the Coast sounds like.
Watch Channel 7 News' interview with 3rd Coast owner Janet Thomas. She explains the restaurant's efforts to conserve during one of Chicago's worst droughts in recent history.
